4 out of 5 stars Good Value, but Quirky   September 3, 2010
Slane
Overall, this bike is a really great value for the money and is definitely a step up from the bottom of the line bikes found at most of the big chain retailers. I'm 6' 2", and I can ride it quite comfortably, which is nice. It's a big bike, so it's definitely going to pose a challenge for anybody that's shorter (I would say anyone 5' 8" and below would start to have some problems.) As others have said, the pedals are plastic and terrible--order a nice set when you order the bike and save yourself some trouble. Unlike another review though, I've had absolutely no trouble with the rear cassette, and I've put about 100 miles on the bike so far. Out of the box, the derailleurs were set just right and shifted nice and smooth without any hesitation, but the brakes needed some tweaking to fix some minor issues (Some of the springs needed tightening to prevent rubbing on the wheel when released.) Wheels actually showed up pretty true, which was nice, and from the box to the street I had the bike built in less than an hour.

My only gripe, and my reason for giving the bike a four-star rating, is the really crappy SR Suntour suspension fork up front. It seems to be quite literally one of the cheapest suspension forks I've ever seen. I'm not a small guy, so when I sit down on the bike, the fork comes within about an inch of bottoming out. Usually, one could adjust the preload to compensate for a heavier rider, but the fork offers no adjustments whatsoever. That being the case, I have a feeling another couple of weeks of bumps from the lack of travel will have the fork completely shot from all of the bottoming out, which means I'll have to replace it over the winter (Probably with a rigid fork to save money and save weight--suspension forks really aren't needed on an urban bike.) Aside from that and the pedals though, the components of the bike all seem really reliable and strong.

Summary: Great hybrid bike for a commuter that doesn't want to enter the realm of boutique bikes costing twice as much from a cycle shop.
Pros: Priced Reasonably, Fairly Lightweight, Easily Assembly with Minimal Tweaking, Comfortable Ride
Cons: Plastic Pedals and Useless Suspension Fork

4 out of 5 stars Great Bike for the Casual Rider   September 3, 2010
Steven Gargolinski (Boston)
My fiancee and I go for bike rides most days after work, somewhere between 5-15 miles. This is the bike that I take on these rides, and it has been great so far. I'm going to break down my experience in a few different areas:

Setup: Pretty easy as far as bikes go, although it will likely be tougher than you think if you've never put one together before. If this process intimidates you at all, it may make sense to bring it to a bike shop for setup. I was able to put it together with only a few missteps and tough sections.

Construction: I am not a bike expert, but once put together this bike seems solid. Shifting is easy and smooth and the brakes are responsive and easily adjustable. I was able to mount two different waterbottles on the frame without any real difficulty.

Ride: This bike has been great so far, and this bike is very fast! The shocks help to provide a smooth ride, and the bike handles well going up and down hills. No real complaints here, I've been very satisfied. The only thing I would mention is that the seat is not very comfortable at all, but I've never really had a bike with a comfortable seat.

Overall: I'm definitely happy with this bike purchase, it's been great for our casual cycling. If you're looking for a bike for casual after-work rides, or maybe longer ones on the weekend - then you will probably not be disappointed with this purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Schwinn Midmoor   September 1, 2010

I needed to rehab a foot injury and decided to spend $ on a bike instead of a rehab center. I was not willing to spend a thousand plus on a bicycle. I had Schwinns as a Kid and so checked this one out. It also was a Consumer's Report best buy. As with others that made a review on the bike, getting the gears to adjust for proper shifting requires a little patience, but that is all. Love the bike. Ride is great. It is light weight. Wife wants one, so another is in the future.

5 out of 5 stars I bought the Avenue, which is basically the same   August 27, 2010

Amazon was out of the light grey ones, so I ended up buying the Schwinn avenue from wally world in a box and assembled it myself.

The bikes are virtually the same. I am very pleased with my purchase. For the cost, I feel that I got a solid, quality feeling bicycle.

The bike comes about 80% assembled, and all you have to do it put on the seat post and seat, install the front wheel and quick release axle, and handlebars. It took me about 20 minutes until I was riding.

I inflated the tires to 70 PSI, and haven't as of yet experienced the dreaded flat tires that people are talking about. The same store I bought the bike from has an abundance of the the tubes needed for this bike so I bought an additional two tubes just in case. I think think they are 700c, 38 x 45, with copper presta valves. The 700c is the diameter of the tube, the 38 is how many millimeters wide the tube is, and the 45 is the lenght of the valve stem or presta valve.

The seat looks like it is made well, yet is pretty uncomfortable. I replaced that with another. It helps if you adjust the horn of the seat down a little so the seat is slight declined so when you ride, that part doesn't hit your pubic bone, and cause soreness. That was your buttocks sit on the back of the seat.

The pedals are plastic junk, I replaced them with some Avenir alloy pedals with better grip, as my feet kept slipping off of those plastic platform pedals that come with it.

YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE THIS TO A BIKE SHOP AND GET IT "TUNNED". Do it yourself, it couldn't be easier to adjust everything. If you have any questions, comment on this review, and I will try to answer you quickly.

I think this is a good buy. It feels as easy to ride as my 20 year old aluminum racing fuji 10 speed I had as a kid. It is very fast, and easy to ride up the hills. The suspension helps smooth out the bumps and it is exaclty what I was looking for!

Mark :)

It's a consumer digest best-buy and have lots of positive reviews. For the most part, it lives up to the accolades. Amazon has very little description of this bike and does not list the size/fitting chart (or have only 1 size). It's a big bike and too high for me (5ft 8).

So try it out at the retailers first to see if it fits you.
